A major new exhibition of Scotland’s embroidered textiles, in partnership with the National Trust for Scotland
Discover Scotland’s textile treasures, many of which have never before been on public display, spotlighting 200 years of Scottish interior design with extraordinary textiles from the National Trust for Scotland’s collection. Marvel at over 80 rich tapestries from 1720-1920, and items including armchairs, fire screens, table cloths, bed hangings, tea cosies and cushions.
Finely worked embroideries are shown alongside portraiture and detailed designs, to illustrates the stories of the textiles at hand. The exhibition also examines the role that women have played in perpetuating embroidery skills, the passing down of traditions through families, and the wider artistic movements that came about as a result.
