The bees you see at Brading Roman Villa are owned by Christine McClellan. Come and find out more about them
The bees you see at Brading Roman Villa are owned and managed by Christine McClellan of Isle of Wight Bees. Come and meet Christine, Terri and Carol and learn how the Romans looked after bees up to modern times of today
Christine has been keeping bees on the island for just over 13 years. She purchased her first hive with a friend in 2011, and since then her colonies have grown, and she is now an accredited Bee Farmer with 14 apiaries across the Isle of Wight.
In addition to managing her own hives, Christine is an integral member of the Isle of Wight Beekeeping Association (IWBKA), associated with the British Beekeeping Association. With another 4 members of the IWBKA, they have set up a charity to raise the awareness on the Isle of Wight of the recentlyintroduced no native species of Hornet – The Yellow Legged Asian Hornet – which is an apex predator of pollinators including honeybees which has recently been introduced to the UK from the Far East via France.
