Let's examine the early story of Beatrix Potter's interest in fungi further by putting her "under the microscope".
Let's examine the early story of Beatrix Potter's interest in fungi further by putting her "under the microscope".
With a collection of over 300 fungi and microscopic watercolours by Beatrix Potter, this display for 2024 aims to review the early life of the well-known children's author. Who was she when growing up? What were her interests? Why did she become so fascinated with the natural world and what was it about fungi specifically that attracted her?
Look closely for yourself at slides of fungi cells under the microscope, delve into our books on Miss Potter, study her watercolours and watch the new video by The Beatrix Potter Society.
For 2024, in response to the fungi paintings by Beatrix Potter, artist Nic Gear has created new work using photographs and written text that reflect Potter's concern for preserving the landscape.
We hope each visitor will leave this exhibition with a greater appreciation for the talented Beatrix Potter.
